Prague City Guide

The Czech Republic has become a popular destination for cheap city breaks over the last few years. Tourists now flock to Prague due to its stunning aesthetics and great amount of activities and attractions.

Getting Around

Prague is an easy place to get around due to the efficient and cheap transport system. Moreover the great extent on offer means that you will always find a way of visiting your desired destination.   The metro station has become a tourist attraction in itself due to its eclectic mix of futuristic and retro metro stops. There are three lines which run through Prague every 5 to 10 minutes; A green, B yellow and C red. There are information desks at the station for information regarding which line to get. Also tickets must be purchased beforehand at the metro station. In Prague, there are also the usual trains, buses and taxis. When getting into a taxi, it is vital to make sure it is registered and it is advisable to book one in advance; many hotels and bars will do this for you. Moreover make sure that the driver has a meter in his vehicle and that it is use to avoid excessive charges.

Sightseeing

It is very easy to view the sights within Prague due to many consisting within walking distance of each other as well as having a great transport system for an easy journey.  Heading west towards the river and Karluv Most (the Charles Bridge) is a great place for tourists to visit. There are many entertainers lining the street and the bridge and castles in the old and new towns are great for an afternoons visit.  The Old Town has become popular with tourists and has many of shops, restaurants and stalls to explore and visit. Moreover the architecture of the Old Town Square and Hall are worth a visit. If you wish to visit a park on a hot summer’s day, there are a few dotted around including Letna Patk, Karlovo and Namesti where you can enjoy the Czech gardens and nature.

Prague Do’s and Dont’s

As well as being aware of the taxi situation in Prague (mentioned in the Getting Around section) there are a few tips to remember before your trip. There can be a major problem with theft within the city centre, especially pick pocketing. As the criminals concentrate around tourist areas, make sure that you have you bag closed and never leave important objects in your pockets; also try and avoid bringing your passport into town. Moreover never leave valuables in your car and park in an underground car par which have security cameras. With a car, make sure you do not park it in a blue zone as it will be clamped and towed.

Prague has become a great tourist destination over the past few years so there is a whole world of attractions and sight which have caught the eye of visitors. Just remember to be safe due to the city being a bustling and lively place.
