Limassol City Guide

The ancient city of Limassol in Cyprus is an interesting place to visit due its abundance of history and culture. There are many sights to see to gain insight into the area, and alongside this there are fun activities for all the family.

Sightseeing and Free things to do

Due to the historical resonance of Cyprus there are plenty of ancient monuments and sights to observe and learn about.  If you are interested in the area’s past, Omodos is the ideal place to visit. Just 42 km from Limassol, this quiet village hosts the Monastery of Stavros where there are a collection of old coins and exquisite wood carving. There is also a National Museum enabling you to gain deep insight into the area. In August, the village hosts a religious festival which is an exciting experience for tourists.

Another great place to soak in the sights is the Troodos Mountains which can be found on the outskirts of Limassol. These are ideal for keen walkers and hikers as well as tourists who wish witness the amazing views at the top of the mountain. There are also friendly locals who live among the mountains who make handmade crafts which you can purchase. You must also visit the Kykkos Monastry in the mountains, which is renowned for its golden statue of the Virgin Mary.

Fun Activities

A great way to enjoy Limassol is through becoming involves in the activities on offer. As well as providing family fun, they also allow you to see the amazing tourist attractions on offer.  The Limassol Cycling Club and the Cyprus Cycling Foundation offer cycling tours which travel around the city and suburbs. They enable you to see the sights and soak in the Cypriot culture.  There are also rental agencies which permit you to take bikes into the hilly terrain to enjoy the landscape.

There are also many horse riding ranches on offer in Limassol where you can take riding lesson as well as go trekking. The trekking Ride Ltd Club enables you to wander along the natural trails as well as adventurously travel across the rough terrain, nature and forests.  There are also many other activities on offer throughout the central town such as; golf, go karting, skiing and clay shooting.

Cuisine

The cuisine within Limassol is varied meaning that there is something for all tastes. Due to it being a popular destination, there are many English restaurants in the tourist spots. However there are still a lot of Cypriot spots where you can enjoy the traditional Meze. The Port is an up and coming area with many lavish eateries with outdoor seating and a beautiful view. Due to Limassol’s location, there are also a handful of great fish restaurants such as Aliada which uses the freshest ingredients for the greatest tastes. The traditional gardens and old buildings are well worth the trek into the old town.

Within Limassol there are many activities to sample when within the city. These can be enjoyed all around the city, where you are able to soak up both the past and present cultural positions of the town.
